Playoff Race Update
Commentary: Oh, what a week. Week 16 proved to be the most devastating of the season for the FMFL. As a result, for the first time in league history, no franchise is safe going into Week 17. No division has been clinched. The current overall leader could miss the playoffs entirely – that’s how close all of the races are this year. There are currently eleven franchises within $600 of the overall lead. Here’s a breakdown of each division race going into the final week:
East: It’s a two-horse race with Bud Fox holding onto a $300 lead over Chris B. Corey. There are no wild card bets left in this division, so Chris will either have to win $500 or hope Bud falters so that he can overtake him.
North: T-Ferg has enjoyed the top spot for much of the season in the North, and he currently has a $700 lead over Kimmy Gibbler. However, T-Ferg also has his wild card bet, and he’s only $300 off the overall lead. He will have an interesting decision to make this week.
South: For the last month or so, this has been a see-saw battle between Boss Hardigan and the Notorious ABT. ABT lost his wild card last week and gave the top spot back to the Boss, for now. Boss Hardigan also still can wager his wild card. To add to the intrigue, OJ and Waldo Geraldo Faldo are just $400 back, so they aren’t out of this yet. Face is still alive and kicking, but he’ll need some big time help to contend for the division crown.
West: Babe excelled in Week 16 by playing it conservative and now has the division and overall lead. Mr. Marbles and Chalky Studebaker, $400 and $600 behind him, both have their wild card bets. Shecky is also $500 back, and has a shot if he has a big week, but would also need Marbles and Chalky to lose their wild card bets.
Wild Card Race: Of the aforementioned eleven franchises within $600 of the overall lead, at least one won’t make the playoffs (ten total playoff teams – four division winners and six wild cards). And it could be more than one, with Face and Kimmy Gibbler definitely within range to overtake someone who stumbles and snatch a postseason berth. Larisa Oleynik is still alive, too, but will need a massacre week league-wide to move up. Judging on how this last week went, it’s not out of the question.
Winners and Losers: Week 15 Recap
Winners
Chris B. Corey won $500 in Week 16 and is making a charge for the East title. He also vaulted himself back into playoff position….T-Ferg continues to hold on in the North. Goodnight, sweet Dem….Gordon Bombay lost $600 on the week and we can turn out the lights for the 2014 champ….Ron Mexico went from playoff contender to losing $600 and now will need a big comeback to get into the postseason.

Losers

He lost $500 and now has some work to do if he wants to win the South crown. Waldo Geraldo Faldo‘s poor week, coupled with late bets, has him clinging to the final playoff spot. Face dropped $500 and needs to get hot if he wants to make the postseason….Another poor week for The 21th, who lost $500.
Winners and Losers: Week 13 Recap
Winners
A big week for Bud Fox, who won $500 and surged ahead in the East. Larisa Oleynik and The People’s Champ also had solid weeks and could be making a push down the home stretch, especially the Champ, who still has his wild card bet….The North is becoming an afterthought, as T-Ferg stretches his lead to $1,400 over the nearest competitor….No one had a better performance in Week 13 than The Notorious ABT, who won $500, took over the lead in the South, and jumped into the top spot overall for the FMFL….Welcome to the wild, wild West where five franchises are within $400 of the lead. Shecky still holds onto the top spot, but the last four weeks will definitely be interesting.
Losers
As much as it pains me to say it, it might be time to stick a fork in Karl Farbman for the 2015 FMFL season….In the midst of attempting to make a playoff run, Blossom Russo forgot to make her bets. In Week 13? Amateur move….Kiko Garcia had a rough go in Week 13, losing $500. He has some work to do if he wants to get into the postseason….Is it time for The 21th Precinct to fire off his wild card bet?
Winners and Losers: Week 12 Recap
Winners
In the East, The Beard of Zeus made his move, winning his wild card bet and $1,000 for the week. Another strong week and he’ll be thinking about making a run at the division. The People’s Champ was also perfect on the week, winning $500 and he’s now back to even money….Lots of winners in the North in Week 12. The Phoenix, Rick Moranis, Blossom Russo, Kimmy Gibbler, and Kenny Powers all won $500. Yaz won his wild card bet and moved up $600 for the week as well….Boss Hardigan continues to hold onto the lead in the hotly contested South. Kiko Garcia won $500 and is pushing his way into the playoff picture, now just a percentage tiebreaker from occupying the final postseason spot….The West is tightening up even more, and Babe won 4 of his 5 wagers this week to push himself closer to the division lead.
Losers
Another tumble for The Big Hurt, who lost $500 and slipped back in the East. Karl Farbman also continues to move back and now occupies the cellar in the division….Dr. Oge continues to drop in the North and it might be time for him to pull the wild card trigger….No big losers in the South this week, so we will continue to wonder how the 2014 champ Gordon Bombay is doing so poorly this season….With not much to lose, Bayonnaise might be another thinking about his wild card bet this week.
Week 11 Recap: Winners and Losers
Winners
Chris B. Corey was the big winner in the East in Week 11. He cashed in on his wild card bet and took the division lead, riding Cam Newton’s golden arm….T-Ferg won just $100, but increased his lead in the North to $1,200, though there’s still a long way to go since many in the North still have their wild card bets available….Another solid week for Boss Hardigan, who leads the South and also the overall race….Shecky went 4-0-1 on his five-teamer in Week 11 to maintain control of the West. Also of note, Ron Mexico won $500 and is nipping at his heels.
Losers
Although he didn’t take a dip in the standings, Bud Fox could be classified as one of the week’s “losers”. He pushed on his wild card bet and lost the lead in the East. The Beard of Zeus took the more traditional loser route, with late bets and no wins for a -$600 week….Blossom Russo lost his wild card bet and might have to chalk up 2015 as a lost season. Goodnight, sweet prince. Rick Moranis lost $500 and is now $1,300 behind the North leader. Goodnight, sweet Jersey….Gordon Bombay continues to dig a deeper hole for himself. Do I sense a Week 12 New England wild card bet?….It may be time for The 21th Precinct to bet his wild card as well to attempt to return to relevancy.
Week 10 Recap: Winners and Losers
Winners
Larisa Oleynik bounced back with a perfect week to jump up in the standings in the East. She’s not out of it yet. The People’s Champ also won $500 and could be making his move. Bud Fox only won $100, but stretches his division lead….Speaking of leads, T-Ferg won $300 and is now $700 ahead of the rest of the North Division….Boss Hardigan recaptured some magic in Week 10, going perfect for the week and surging ahead in the South and is also the overall leader at the moment….Shecky is still hanging onto the lead in the West, but has been on the decline the past few weeks.
Losers
Another poor week for The Big Hurt has him into the negative dollars. After a great start to the season, oh how the mighty have fallen….A wild card bet loss has sent Kenny Powers down to the cellar of the North. Kimmy Gibbler lost $500 and is keeping him company. Also of note, The Phoenix had late bets and lost $600 for the week….Gordon Bombay suffered a major setback, losing $500 and back to even money….Abe Froman dropped all of his bets and is once again in the basement of the West.
Winners and Losers: Week 9 Recap
Winners
Week 9 was all about survival, and Bud Fox lost $100, but slightly increased his lead in the East. Right now, it looks like the division will only send one franchise to the postseason. Minor shoutout to Don Mattingly for winning $500. He’ll still need to make a major move to get into contention….Yaz, left for dead by many, won $500 and benefited from the rest of the North losing big time. He’s in last place, but only $1,500 off of the lead in this tightly packed division….Waldo Geraldo Faldo eked out $100 in Week 9, but it was enough to get him into a three-way tie for the South Division lead. Don’t count out Face just yet – he won $500 and is back in the positive….Chalky Studebaker had a ho-hum week, but it was enough to get him back into second place in the West and right behind the division leader.
Losers
It all came down to Monday night for Larisa Oleynik. If the Chargers covered, she would have had the lead in the East. They didn’t, so she’s now $1,300 behind the leader….T-Ferg lost $500 and still maintains his lead, but had an opportunity to break away. Kenny Powers and Dr. Oge also dropped $500 for the week….It was a week of coming back down to earth for Boss Hardigan and The Notorious ABT. They entered Week 9 tied for the lead in the South. They both lost $500, and are still tied, but have some company at the top….Ron Mexico, Bayonnaise, and The 21th Precinct all lost $500. In the hotly contested West, ever dollar will count. Also worth noting, Shecky slipped back again. His conservative strategy worked for a few weeks, but lady luck seems to have caught up with him.
Week 6 Recap: Winners and Losers
Winners
In the East, Chris B. Corey had a modest week, but jumped back into the division lead….T-Ferg won $500 and for the moment has broken away from the rest of the North Division. That was definitely the most important thing that happened to him over the weekend….Boss Hardigan stayed hot and is now $500 clear of the South. Also of note, OJ winning $500 and trying to become relevant….In the West, Shecky is playing conservative, but keeps on adding to his total each week.
Losers
It’s now clear that Don Mattingly has his sights set on the all-time record for worst total….In the blink of an eye, Kimmy Gibbler lost $500 and went from first in the North to sixth….No huge losers in the South Division this week, but Face continues to dig himself deeper in the cellar….The once vaunted West Division took some lumps this week, but most of it was at the back of the pack. Bayonnaise, The 21th Precinct, and Abe Froman all dropped $500.
Week 4 Recap: Winners and Losers
Winners
No huge movements in a positive direction in the East Division, so The Big Hurt maintains his lead, though several others are within striking distance….Rick Moranis won $500 and increased his lead atop of the North standings….Art Schlichter also had a perfect week and is now tied for first in the South Division. Five franchises are within $300 of the top spot in the division race….And Mr. Marbles and Babe won $500 to make up some ground in the West after last week’s big shakeup. They both have a long way to go, but it’s still early.
Losers
No picks for The Beard of Zeus? At least he’s still ahead of the woeful Don Mattingly in the East….Both Blossom Russo and Yaz dropped $500 last week and look to be shells of the once feared FMFL powerhouses….Face has spiraled down to the bottom of the South Division standings, but on the bright side he’s still only a few solid weeks from being the in the crowded division race….No big losers in the West this week, but one wonders when the real Abe Froman will stand up.
