Commentary: Farbman seized the lead after Pittsburgh covered in the AFC Championship Game, as Karl was the only franchise that bet the Steelers. Because of the special Super Bowl betting rules, there are three other teams that have a chance to catch him: Gordon Bombay, who split his bets this week, Kimmy Gibbler, who dropped $500 and fell out of the lead, and Blossom Russo, who is still hanging around at $100.

Once again, here are the rules for the Super Bowl bet:

For the Super Bowl, a franchise must bet either $100, $200, $300, $400 or $500 AND submit the following three (3) tiebreakers (in whole numbers, without ½ points or yards):

Actual winner of the game (without line)
By how many points (without line)
Total official offensive yardage of the winning team as reflected on the official NFL web site.

And here is the prize money at stake:

2nd – $172.50
3rd – $86.25

Commentary: Both Gibbler and Bombay had perfect betting weeks, but an inexcusable late bet by Bombay has him $100 out of the lead. Karl Farbman, Blossom Russo, and the 21th Precinct are hanging around but will need help to get back near the leader. Mr. Marbles and the People’s Champ both dropped $500 and might have blown their championship hopes.

Playoff Commentary: Six out of the seven postseason franchises bet two-teamers in Week 1. Of those six, five franchises split their two games. Karl Farbman was the lone player to hit both of his bets, giving him a $400 lead on the rest of the league. The 21th Precinct bet all four games and ended up with two wins and two losses. The Indianapolis loss to San Diego was the big killer this week, taking down four franchises.
