The Top Ten: Week 14

by The Executive Director

Commentary: For the most part, things stayed the same after Week 13. The overall leader switched again, but other than that the league remained as it was last week. The Phoenix dropped his wild card, so now there are only ten franchises with their big bet left. A few of those with their wild card are slowly making a run at the playoffs, so a $1,000 week could shake up the postseason picture. In sad news, Face cannot pick a winner. Four weeks to go.

(current total; last week’s ranking)

1. Mr. Marbles ($2,400; 2)
Marbles recaptures the overall lead with a $500 week. More importantly, there are four weeks to go and he has a $2,000 lead on the rest of his division. He can almost seal up the division title with a solid Week 14.

2. The Beard of Zeus ($2,300; 1)
The Beard won $300, so he lost the overall lead. But his margin for error in the North is growing. He’s up $1,200 and still has his wild card bet.

3. Bayonnaise ($1,800; 3)
The best divisional race is in the East, where the ‘Naise kept rolling with a $500 week. He’s $600 off the overall lead…

4. Karl Farbman ($1,700; 4)
…but Farbman is right on his heels. He, too, had a $500 week and is just $100 behind Bayonnaise. Farbman currently holds the first wild card spot.

5. Ron Mexico ($1,300; 5)
Ron won $100 as not much changed in the West. He still maintains a $600 lead on the rest of the division, so anything can happen. If he could summon up a perfect week, it would put some distance between him and the West with three weeks to go.

6. Mr. DeBlasis ($1,200; 6)
Lost among the East divisional race is that Mr. DeBlasis is still within shouting distance. He’s $600 off the divisional pace, and would have the second wild card spot if the season ended today.

7. Babe ($1,100; 7)
Babe has maintained a steady pace over the last few weeks, and is in prime playoff position. Time is running out to make a run at the division, but one bad week and he could be on the outside looking in for the postseason.

8. Boss Hardigan ($700; 8 )
Hardigan has quietly positioned himself for a late-season run. Right now, he has the fourth wild card spot and is one solid week from passing Ron Mexico for the West.

9. Kiko Garcia ($600; NR)
The big winner in Week 13 was Kiko Garcia. He went 3-for-3 on his picks and leaped over the contenders to put himself into the last playoff spot. He’ll need to keep it up over the next few weeks, as eight franchises are within $500 of the last postseason berth.

10. Slovy Maximus ($500; 9)
Slovy is flying under the radar, but is also within reach of the West. Right now, he wouldn’t make the playoffs, but he should be in the mix down the stretch.
