The Top Ten: Week 12
Commentary: We are getting closer and closer to the home stretch, and the races for playoff spots are heating up. There’s a big drop off after the top six franchises, all of whom seem to be destined for the postseason, barring a disaster in December. Behind them, nearly half of the league is within shouting distance of the final few playoff berths. With six weeks to go, it’s a good time to take a look at which franchises still have their wild card bets available. 19 are gone and 9 remain. They are listed below:
East: Gordon Bombay
North: Bayonnaise, Boss Hardigan
South: Kiko Garcia, The 21th Precinct, The Notorious ABT, Will Cover
West: The Beard of Zeus, The People’s Champ
(Total; previous ranking)
1. Kimmy Gibbler ($600; 4)
Kimmy won $500 for the third week in a row and she is your new overall leader. Not so long ago she was down and out after losing her wild card, but she has come roaring back.
2. Teddy KGB ($500; 5)
Teddy had a perfect Week 11 and increases his lead in the West. He is $1,400 ahead of the rest of the pack.
3. Kiko Garcia ($300; 2)
Kiko remained even for the week, but lost some ground in the race for the South. He’s $300 behind Kimmy.
4. The Phoenix ($300; 6)
Somehow, someway, the Phoenix won $500 on a three-teamer and is now leading the North by $100. Rick Moranis once had a season of clarity and glory – is the same thing happening to The Phoenix?
5. Bayonnaise ($200; 3)
The Naise was usurped in the North by The Phoenix, but he’s only $100 back. Bayonnaise is also in prime position for the playoffs.
6. Will Cover (-$100; 1)
Will lost $500 and fell back to third in the South, which was a huge considering the $1,000 swing with Kimmy. He’s now $700 off the lead.
7. Yaz (-$800; NR)
Yaz won $500 for the third straight week and rockets up to the top of the East Division. The rest of the East is doing everything in their power to lose each week, and Yaz is taking advantage.
8. Face (-900; 10)
Face went up $100 for the week and is back in the mix for the playoffs. His dreams of winning the West might be over, though, considering the gap.
9. Art Schlichter (-$1,100; 7)
A bad week for Art as he loses $500 and drops all the way back to the final wild card spot, with a slim $200 lead on the closest threats. Week 12 could be a turning point for him.
10. Waldo Geraldo Faldo (-$1,300; 8)
Waldo also lost $500 finds himself on the outside looking in of the playoffs. It gets crowded quickly right after him, too, so there is little room for error.
